Senior Hardware Engineer - Micro-Architect

Role Summary

Senior member of the chip design team responsible for defining microarchitecture and implementing RTL for a novel edge AI processor. The role covers front-end microarchitecture, RTL implementation, and participation across the full product cycle through timing closure and tapeout.

Work closely with software, physical design, and verification teams; the company prefers candidates who can regularly collaborate from the Burlingame, CA office.

Experience Level

Senior - requires significant prior experience. The posting specifies a minimum of five years of CPU/GPU/ASIC front-end design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include ownership of microarchitecture and RTL, PPA optimization, and supporting full-chip delivery.

  • Contribute to processor architecture definition informed by target applications.
  • Define microarchitecture and implement RTL in SystemC, SystemVerilog, or Verilog.
  • Optimize power, performance, and area (PPA) for assigned blocks.
  • Drive timing closure across front-end and back-end stages through tapeout.
  • Develop and use performance models and perform logic synthesis analysis.
  • Debug across the full software/hardware stack and support system-level integration.
  • Package designs for customer releases and incorporate customer feedback.
  • Collaborate with verification, physical design, software, and product teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Minimum five years of CPU/GPU/ASIC front-end design experience.
  • Proficiency in SystemC, SystemVerilog, or Verilog.
  • Strong background in computer architecture and data-parallel hardware design.
  • Knowledge of low-power digital design techniques.
  • Experience with VCS and Verilog/C co-simulation.
  • Experience in logic synthesis and performance modeling.
  • FPGA design experience is a plus.
  • Preferred: experience marketing semiconductor IP, AI accelerators, SoCs, EDA tools, or developer platforms; familiarity with automotive safety (ASIL) standards.

Education Requirements

BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (as stated in the posting).
