Job Title

Senior Functional Safety Engineer

Role Summary

The Senior Functional Safety Engineer will develop and deliver functional safety platform and IP solutions for automotive and industrial SoC products, working within NXP's CTO Functional Safety Competence Centre. The role focuses on defining safety requirements, supporting SEooC lifecycle management, and ensuring compliance with ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.

Experience Level

Senior-level role. Requires demonstrated experience leading functional safety workstreams and delivering ISO 26262 / IEC 61508 compliant IP or SoC safety solutions.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Define safety requirements for platform and IP modules and maintain them through the development lifecycle.
  • Deliver functional safety platform and IP solutions compliant with ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.
  • Manage SEooC platform/IP modules through their lifecycle and prepare them for functional safety assessment.
  • Support SoC integration of safety platform and IP, including implementation of IP assumptions of use.
  • Perform safety analyses: FMEDA, FTA, DFA, and execute fault-injection campaigns.
  • Lead IP, subsystem, or SoC functional safety development and coordinate safety audits and assessments.
  • Define safety features and roadmaps aligned with functional architecture and collaborate with internal and external IP teams.
  • Report on compliance status, identify gaps, and coordinate mitigation actions with management and SoC teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 and their application to silicon/IP safety.
  • Experience with safety analysis techniques: FTA, DFA, FMEDA, and fault injection.
  • Proven track record leading functional safety development for IP, subsystems, or SoCs through lifecycle phases.
  • Experience with safety audits, assessments, and compliance processes.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate compliance status and mitigation plans.

Education Requirements

B.Tech in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience. A Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering or Computer Engineering is preferred (2+ years of experience preferred). Other similar technical degrees acceptable as indicated in the source posting.
