Senior FPGA/Prototype Design Engineer
Blue OriginJob Title
Senior FPGA/Prototype Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work with design, verification, and software teams to develop FPGA prototypes and emulation platforms that validate ASIC designs, accelerate software development, and support post-silicon bring-up.
Deliver portable prototype platforms, maintain retargeting flows, and provide technical support and qualification for prototype and emulation releases.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 7+ years of experience in FPGA prototyping, emulation, or digital design verification.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building and validating FPGA and emulation platforms, reproducing failures, and enabling early hardware-software integration.
- Develop and maintain ASIC-to-FPGA retargeting flows (resource constraints, clock scaling, memory retargeting).
- Deliver FPGA prototype platforms for multiple configurations, top levels, and release qualification.
- Qualify commercial emulation platforms and assess test coverage and compatibility against simulation.
- Reproduce and debug prototype and emulation failures with design and verification teams through resolution.
- Build portable platform environments spanning block and top level, RTL and gate, pre-silicon and silicon.
- Support post-silicon bring-up using shared pre-silicon benches and simulation platforms.
- Accelerate software development and early hardware integration by releasing prototypes and documenting feature limitations.
- Support internal platform users through triage, documentation, and direct technical assistance.
Requirements
Must-have technical qualifications followed by concise nice-to-have items.
- Must-have: 7+ years of experience in FPGA prototyping, emulation, or digital design verification.
- Experience with FPGA implementation tools and flows, including synthesis, constraints, and timing closure.
- Experience developing and debugging production RTL in SystemVerilog or Verilog authored by others.
- Experience defining FPGA prototype or emulation flows, including build automation and release management.
- Proven ability to reproduce and debug prototype/emulation failures and support post-silicon bring-up.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with emulation platforms for large-scale SoC validation and release.
- Background in space-based communications, wireless communications, modem/baseband, or DSP hardware.
- Experience verifying LDPC, FEC, framing, beamforming, interconnect/NoC performance, bandwidth, QoS, and deadlock analysis.
- Experience verifying fault tolerance features such as ECC, redundancy schemes, or fault injection.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required. A Master’s degree in those fields is preferred.
