Senior FPGA Engineer (Verification)
RadiantJob Title
Senior FPGA Engineer (Verification)
Role Summary
Lead verification of FPGA designs used in reactor safety, control, and instrumentation systems as a member of the Embedded Systems team. Work cross-functionally with RTL designers, hardware engineers, embedded software engineers, and test engineers to ensure FPGA designs meet requirements for controlling and monitoring fission reactors.
This role contributes to validation of the company's first commercial reactor design and focuses on safety-critical, high-reliability verification.
Experience Level
Senior. No specific years-of-experience stated.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead verification efforts for FPGA designs using SystemVerilog and UVM/OVM frameworks from test-plan development through coverage closure.
- Develop and maintain automated verification testbenches for functional, regression, constrained-random, and edge-case coverage.
- Define and execute verification strategies for sensor processing, serial communication, and actuator-handling logic.
- Collaborate directly with RTL designers and embedded software engineers to clarify design intent, reproduce and resolve bugs, and ensure complete functional coverage.
- Drive coverage closure and maintain verification metrics and test plans.
- Recommend and adopt tools and practices to improve the FPGA verification flow and automation.
- Contribute to RTL design and hardware integration work as needed to support verification and bring-up.
Requirements
Key requirements and desirable skills:
- Must-have: Proficient in SystemVerilog and UVM/OVM-based verification methodologies and building automated testbenches.
- Must-have: Experience with constrained-random verification, functional and regression testing, and coverage-driven verification to closure.
- Must-have: Strong understanding of RTL (FPGA/HDL) design and FPGA implementation flow; ability to read and review RTL.
- Must-have: Experience interfacing verification with embedded software and hardware test setups (lab bring-up, instrumented tests).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with safety-critical or regulated systems (nuclear, aerospace, medical) or similar high-reliability environments.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with common serial protocols, sensor/actuator interfaces, scripting for test automation (Python, TCL), and hardware debug tools.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
