Senior FPGA Engineer - Simulink (Remote)
AndurilJob Title
Senior FPGA Engineer - Simulink (Remote)
Role Summary
The Senior FPGA Engineer will design and deliver embedded processing solutions for communications and networking, translating algorithms from MATLAB/Simulink into FPGA firmware and integrating with system software and hardware. The role focuses on implementation, verification, integration, and sustainment for low-cost FPGAs, SoCs, and SoMs.
The role also establishes HDL firmware lifecycle practices and develops microprocessor ICDs for message and data handling between FPGA and system software.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 6+ years designing and verifying FPGA-based systems.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (RF, DSP, Firmware, FPGA, Software, Test) to deliver embedded processing solutions for communications and networking.
- Translate algorithms from MATLAB/Simulink into FPGA implementations and optimize the implementation lifecycle from requirements through sustainment.
- Architect, design, develop, simulate, verify and test HDL firmware for FPGAs, SoCs and SoMs.
- Establish and optimize HDL firmware lifecycle workflows and best practices across architecture, design, simulation, verification, and system testing.
- Develop microprocessor ICDs and message/data handling interfaces between FPGA and system software.
- Support integration, system testing, debugging, and sustainment of FPGA-based products.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 6+ years experience designing, implementing, and verifying FPGA systems using VHDL or Verilog.
- Experience using code generators to convert MATLAB/Simulink algorithms into FPGA designs.
- Proficient in C and C++ and experienced with RTOS-based development.
- Familiarity with common MCU/CPU/FPGA devices and standard interfaces (Ethernet, I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB).
- Proficiency with EE test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators) and PCBA testing.
- Experience with wireless communications systems and computer networking.
- Experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex communications board designs.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with flight software architectures, high-reliability aerospace design, and aircraft systems redundancy.
- Knowledge of DO-254, DO-178C, DO-160, DO-311A, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461.
- Experience with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Code-GPT).
- Experience implementing enhanced security measures.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
