Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer III
Role Summary
Senior FPGA engineer responsible for designing, integrating, verifying, and supporting FPGA SoC systems used in telecommunications and networking products. Works with hardware, firmware and software teams to deliver timing‑optimized, high‑throughput FPGA IP and platform firmware.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Specific years of experience are not stated in the posting.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include:
- Design, develop, document, debug and test FPGA SoC systems and perform IP integration (synthesis and implementation).
- Develop high-performance FPGA IP in VHDL and SystemVerilog optimized for fmax and throughput.
- Develop userspace drivers for FPGA IP in C++ and firmware for embedded microcontrollers in C.
- Create RTL simulations and perform static timing analysis; identify and resolve timing issues before and after hardware tests.
- Implement and verify gigabit transceiver protocols (PCIe, Interlaken, USB SuperSpeed) and Ethernet MAC/PCS standards across 1G–100G.
- Collaborate with PCB designers on schematic capture and FPGA-related layout.
- Communicate design status, tradeoffs and issues to cross-functional teams and engineering management.
Requirements
Minimum and preferred technical qualifications:
-
Must-have: Strong digital design experience in FPGA/ASIC SoC design and FPGA implementation using Altera Quartus or Xilinx Vivado.
- Experience with AMBA AXI and APB interfaces and design of pipelined, fmax-optimized AXI-Stream IP.
- Proven ability to create RTL simulations and perform STA with SDC; analyze STA reports and post-synthesis/placement to resolve failing paths.
- Experience implementing at least one gigabit transceiver protocol (PCIe, Interlaken, USB SuperSpeed) and familiarity with 1000BASE-X/SGMII, 10GBASE-R, 40GBASE-4, 100GBASE-R4.
- Practical knowledge of network protocols (L1 IEEE 802.3 Ethernet variants; L2/L3 IPv4, IPv6, ARP, ICMP, IGMP, UDP, TCP; L4 examples such as VITA 49.2, eCPRi highly desired).
- Proficient in C and C++, experienced with Git version control; experience developing userspace drivers and embedded firmware.
- Experience supporting multidisciplinary, cross-functional and matrixed teams; strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Nice-to-have: Working knowledge of digital IF streams such as VITA 49.2, DIFI and/or eCPRi.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
Education Requirements
