Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Hands-on Senior FPGA Engineer in the GDP division designing and delivering FPGA/DSP hardware for RF telemetry receivers used in flight test, missile test, range safety, and space applications.
Work spans MATLAB DSP modeling, VHDL FPGA implementation, board bring-up, lab testing and system integration on mission-critical aerospace hardware. This is a hardware-focused role requiring regular lab and bench work.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 5+ years of DSP-based product development and FPGA design experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver and verify FPGA/DSP features for RF telemetry receivers; support hardware integration and field test activities.
- Design, implement, debug, and verify FPGA/DSP signal processing for telemetry RF receivers.
- Develop VHDL-based FPGA designs with simulation and verification flows.
- Translate MATLAB DSP models into FPGA implementations and validate performance.
- Support board-level development, PCB oversight, lab bring-up, and hardware debugging.
- Integrate embedded CPU and FPGA components and support firmware interactions.
- Produce requirements, test plans, design reviews, and maintain Jira issue tracking.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for system integration and customer-facing activities.
- Provide field-test and lab support for deployment and troubleshooting.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items noted separately.
- 5+ years in DSP-based product development.
- Hands-on FPGA design experience using VHDL, including simulation and verification.
- RF receiver signal processing experience and familiarity with telemetry systems.
- Knowledge of modulation schemes such as PCM/FM and SOQPSK.
- FEC techniques experience (LDPC, Viterbi).
- Practical MATLAB experience for DSP modeling and verification.
- Lab experience with RF and test equipment for board bring-up and debugging.
- Must be a U.S. person due to ITAR/EAR export-control requirements.
-
Nice-to-have: Embedded C/C++ experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
