Senior FPGA Engineer
Clearance JobsJob Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Senior FPGA Engineer responsible for designing, verifying, and integrating FPGA-based digital signal processing and control for advanced RF transmitter systems. The role works on FPGA circuit card assemblies, hardware bring-up, and hardware/software interface definition within an engineering team supporting RF products.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 8+ years of relevant FPGA or RF system engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Key day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Define and document functional requirements for FPGA subsystems.
- Design, simulate, and implement FPGA-based digital signal processing (e.g., baseband processing).
- Develop FPGA-based circuit card assemblies using schematic capture and deliver design artifacts.
- Build and test hardware prototypes using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and logic analyzers.
- Coordinate and specify software tasks related to hardware–software interfaces (e.g., Linux host / PCIe endpoint).
- Perform timing closure, synthesis, and implementation verification for FPGA builds.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Proficiency with Xilinx FPGA design flows, including ISE and Vivado; strong VHDL design skills.
- Experience across FPGA design flow: simulation, synthesis, implementation, and timing closure.
- Hands-on experience with Xilinx 7-series devices.
- Expertise in FPGA real-time DSP algorithms: decimation/interpolation filters, fractional delay, asynchronous sample-rate conversion, NCOs, Hilbert transforms, FFTs, and waveform generation.
- Knowledge of FPGA hardware interfaces for RF sampling and waveform generation using A/D and D/A converters.
- Experience with FPGA-based high-speed interfaces such as PCIe and DDR3 memory controllers.
- Strong understanding of hardware–software interaction and verification on Linux hosts and PCIe endpoints.
Nice-to-have:
- MATLAB/Simulink modeling and converting high-level models to FPGA implementations.
- Experience with RF system design for high-power or high-speed communications.
- C programming and ability to develop simple Linux test applications for FPGA verification.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. The posting specifies 8+ years of relevant experience and requires an active DoD-issued Secret clearance.
