Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Join a multi-disciplinary Electronic Systems Development team to design and prototype FPGA/ASIC-based embedded systems for government research programs. Work focuses on real-time communications, sensor processing, software-defined radio (SDR) platforms, and low size/weight/power/cost (SWaP-C) custom platforms.

Responsibilities span architecture, implementation, verification, integration, and on-target testing of prototype hardware and embedded systems.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical experience guidance: approximately 5+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with a Master's; PhD or equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.

Responsibilities

Deliver FPGA and ASIC components and embedded prototypes across development phases.

  • Design, implement, and optimize FPGA logic and RTL for embedded platforms.
  • Synthesize, simulate, and verify RTL; perform timing closure and integration with IP cores.
  • Implement algorithms in hardware and software on SoC/FPGA platforms and debug on target hardware.
  • Integrate third-party IP, maintain documentation and version control, and manage build scripts.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to translate requirements into working prototypes.
  • Lead testing, verification, and deployment activities for prototype systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and workplace expectations.

  • Experience with RTL languages and tool flows, including synthesis and simulation.
  • Proven experience implementing complex embedded systems and performing on-target debugging.
  • Familiarity with industry best practices for design, verification, test, and deployment.
  • Experience integrating third-party IP into custom designs.
  • Strong programming foundation and experience with scripting for automation and builds (e.g., Python, TCL, CMake).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required for security-clearance eligibility; capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Work location requirement: onsite in Bedford, MA at least four days per week.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with AMD Xilinx MPSoC/RFSoC/Versal or Intel Agilex SoC platforms.
  • Exposure to ASIC/EDA flows (synthesis, timing closure, place & route) and foundry process knowledge.
  • Familiarity with processor interfaces, signal processing (MATLAB), UVM/verification methodologies, and hardware emulation platforms.

Education Requirements

Typical requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (with ~5 years' relevant experience); or Master’s degree (with ~3 years' relevant experience); or a PhD with relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and work experience is acceptable. Candidates must be U.S. citizens to meet government security-clearance eligibility.
