Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Lead architecture, RTL design, verification, and debug of high-performance FPGA systems for mission-critical communications and space-related applications. Collaborate with hardware, firmware, systems, and PCB teams to deliver production-ready FPGA solutions.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically requires 5+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead RTL design and implementation in Verilog and VHDL for complex FPGA systems.
  • Develop and maintain reusable IP cores and design libraries; enforce coding standards.
  • Create testbenches and perform functional verification and simulation.
  • Optimize designs for timing, resource utilization, and power; perform timing closure using EDA tools.
  • Integrate and validate high-speed interfaces (PCIe, SERDES, Ethernet); support signal integrity and board bring-up.
  • Debug hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and internal FPGA debug cores (ILA/SignalTap).
  • Manage synthesis, place-and-route, and bitstream generation flows (Vivado, Quartus); coordinate with tool vendors as needed.
  • Mentor junior engineers, lead design reviews, and produce design documentation and release artifacts.
  • Support manufacturing handoff, field diagnostics, and post-silicon validation.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred skills:

  • Must-have: Proficiency in Verilog and VHDL; experience with Xilinx/AMD Vivado and/or Intel/Altera Quartus; RTL design, synthesis, SDC constraints, and timing-closure methodologies; hands-on high-speed digital design and interface experience; experience using hardware debug tools and internal FPGA debug cores; demonstrated ownership of complete FPGA design cycles.
  • Preferred: Experience with SystemVerilog, UVM or advanced verification methodologies; familiarity with vendor IP and IP integration.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
