Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Senior FPGA Engineer for the Electronic Warfare business unit in Sunrise, FL. Design, implement, integrate, and verify FPGA-based digital hardware and systems that support communications, sensing, and electronic warfare capabilities.

The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership: you will develop designs, create verification artifacts, coordinate across disciplines, and may mentor or direct other engineers and technicians.

Experience Level

Senior - senior-level engineering role. Requires substantial prior experience in digital/FPGA engineering and system integration.

Responsibilities

Deliver and verify FPGA-based digital hardware across the product lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:

• Design complex digital hardware and FPGA systems and implement designs for Xilinx/Intel devices.
• Develop requirements, design specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
• Create and run experiments, analyze results, and validate component and system performance.
• Develop testbenches, simulations, automation, and debug environments.
• Collaborate with hardware, DSP, software, systems, and test engineers during development and integration.
• Assign and direct tasks for engineers and technicians; coordinate schedules and ensure technical quality.
• Prepare project scopes, budgets, and schedules; contribute to proposal preparation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, compliance, and professional competencies.

• Proven proficiency in digital design and simulation.
• Proficiency with hardware description languages (HDLs); VHDL preferred.
• Experience with Xilinx and Intel (Altera) FPGA devices and basic FPGA/ASIC design flow.
• Experience with testbenches, simulation tools, synthesis flows, and scripting to control build tools.
• Familiarity with software-defined radios (SDR), basic C/C++, and basic network technologies (Ethernet, TCP/IP).
• Experience with revision control (Git, TFS) and device/part evaluation and selection.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• U.S. person status required per ITAR; U.S. Citizenship may be required for some positions and government contracts.
• Non-technical competencies: problem solving, attention to quality, professionalism, innovation, and ability to mentor or lead technical staff.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree plus 8 years of relevant digital design/FPGA engineering experience, or Master’s degree plus 6 years of relevant experience (as stated in the posting).
