Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design, implement, and verify FPGA-based digital systems as a member of the FPGA engineering team. Work with systems, hardware, and test teams to deliver reliable, production-ready firmware and support lab and integraton testing.

Experience Level

Senior - expected for experienced engineers. Typical background: several years of professional FPGA/RTL design and verification experience.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on FPGA architecture, RTL development, verification, and integration into hardware platforms.

• Develop RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL) for new and existing FPGA designs.
• Create and maintain testbenches and directed/random verification to validate designs.
• Run synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and generate bitstreams using vendor toolflows.
• Integrate FPGA designs with board-level peripherals (DDR, SerDes, PCIe, clocks, reset networks).
• Troubleshoot hardware bring-up and support lab-level testing and validation.
• Collaborate with system architects, hardware engineers, and firmware/software teams to meet product requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design reviews and documentation.

• Proven experience with FPGA design flows, RTL coding, and synthesis for production systems.
• Strong skills in Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL and experience with vendor toolchains (Xilinx/AMD, Intel).
• Experience with timing closure, constraints, static timing analysis, and board-level integration.
• Practical lab experience with hardware bring-up, JTAG, logic analyzers, and test equipment.
• U.S. Person requirement: must be a U.S. Person or able to obtain required export authorization.
• Ability to pass background/security checks consistent with aerospace/defense work and company policy.
• Nice-to-have: space or aerospace hardware experience, radiation-tolerant design practices, high-speed SerDes, PCIe, embedded processors, or familiarity with DO-178/DO-254-like processes.
