Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA-based solutions for RF and wireless products. Work with a cross-functional hardware and software team to deliver size-, weight-, and power-optimized systems for mission-focused customers.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include digital design and system-level FPGA development for high-speed RF products, verification, and bring-up.
- Design, develop, modify, and evaluate FPGA/ASIC-based electronic components and systems.
- Analyze system requirements and select components based on specifications and reliability.
- Develop HDL implementations and timing/pin constraint strategies; perform synthesis and timing closure.
- Debug complex FPGA designs at system level and during hardware bring-up.
- Implement and validate high-speed interfaces and architectures (e.g., JESD204C, multi-gigabit Ethernet links).
- Integrate FPGA logic with DSP baseband algorithms and peripherals; coordinate software/firmware and hardware integration.
- Execute lab tests, analyze results, and iterate designs to meet performance and form-factor goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and document design decisions and test results.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security, and eligibility requirements.
- 10+ years of relevant FPGA/DSP design experience.
- U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain at least a Secret security clearance and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Expertise in HDL coding (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog) and constraint management.
- Proven ability to debug complex FPGA designs in-system and during bring-up.
- Experience implementing and debugging high-speed architectures and transport layers (examples: JESD204C, multi-gigabit Ethernet, VITA-49).
- Strong understanding of communications systems and RF-related concepts (filters, modulation/demodulation, equalization, FEC, AFC, AGC).
- DSP baseband signal processing experience and scheduling of DSP tasks.
- Proficiency programming and scripting for embedded and test environments (Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and VHDL-based flows).
- Experience with FPGA peripherals, DMA, and bus interfaces; familiarity with AXI/AXIS is preferred.
- Willingness to travel locally up to 10% and work collaboratively in a small team.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field (BS in EE or similar) is specified in the posting.
Nice-to-Have
Additional skills that are beneficial but not required.
- Experience with wireless standards (3GPP/LTE, WCDMA, GSM, IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.15).
- Mixed-signal design understanding (quantization, SFDR, dynamic range) and RF-path compensation techniques.
- Experience bringing up custom hardware with FPGAs or SoCs (Ultrascale+, Zynq 7000, Intel Agilex, etc.).
- Familiarity with softcore processors (Picoblaze, Microblaze, NIOS) and AMBA/AXI buses.
- Advanced simulation experience and knowledge of SystemVerilog classes/packages.
