Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA-based prototype systems for real-time sensor, communication, and navigation applications. Work on end-to-end hardware/software solutions on embedded and reconfigurable SoC platforms as part of a multidisciplinary R&D team supporting government research projects.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role expects an experienced engineer; see Education Requirements for degree and experience combinations.

Responsibilities

The team focuses on rapid prototyping and delivering working embedded hardware prototypes. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Develop FPGA and ASIC components for embedded systems and prototype platforms.
  • Implement algorithms in hardware and software on embedded/reconfigurable SoC platforms.
  • Integrate third-party IP and manage RTL integration and synthesis flows.
  • Participate in architecture, implementation, verification, testing, documentation, and version control processes.
  • Work on low SWaP-C (size, weight, power, cost) platforms and high-throughput signal-processing architectures.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and contribute to system-level test and deployment.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and constraints for hiring consideration:

  • Proficient in RTL languages (VHDL, Verilog/SystemVerilog) and RTL synthesis and simulation tools.
  • Experience implementing complex embedded systems and deploying designs on hardware platforms.
  • Familiarity with design, verification, test, and deployment best practices; experience integrating third-party IP.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship required (per government eligibility) and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Willingness to work on-site at least 4 days per week (Bedford, MA).
  • Preferred: experience with AMD Xilinx MPSoC/RFSoC/Versal or Intel Agilex SoC, scripting/build tools (Tcl, Python, CMake), ASIC EDA tools, UVM/OVM methodologies, and exposure to MATLAB and hardware emulation platforms.

Education Requirements

Typical qualifications: Bachelor’s degree plus ~5 years related experience, or Master’s degree plus ~3 years, or PhD with relevant experience; equivalent combinations of education and practical experience are acceptable. Preferred fields: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical fields. (M.S. or PhD in EE/CE is listed as preferred.)
