Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Lead integration of an existing VHDL-based FPGA prototype for an MRI gradient driver into a production MR platform. Responsible for FPGA development, real-time control of high-voltage power electronics, system integration, validation, and production transition in a regulated, high-reliability environment.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 10+ years of FPGA and digital design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include FPGA development, integration, and validation for MRI gradient driver and associated power-electronics control.

  • Assume ownership and further develop VHDL FPGA designs for real-time control of high-voltage (~800V) switching systems and gradient control.
  • Design, implement, and optimize synchronous digital logic, PWM-based control, state machines, and perform timing analysis.
  • Perform FPGA hardware integration, bring-up, debugging, and validation on target hardware.
  • Integrate FPGA prototype into production MR platform and support the transition from lab prototype to production-ready medical equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system integration, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Document design processes, test results, and evidence required for regulatory compliance in medical device production.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.

  • Must: 10+ years of FPGA and digital design experience.
  • Must: Strong VHDL development experience.
  • Must: Experience with Intel/Altera FPGA platforms and Quartus development tools.
  • Must: Deep understanding of synchronous digital design, clocked systems, state machines, timing analysis, and deterministic real-time control.
  • Must: Experience implementing PWM and switching control logic in FPGA-based systems and supporting power-electronics or high-power control applications.
  • Must: FPGA-based hardware integration, bring-up, debugging, and validation experience; experience transitioning products from prototype to production.
  • Nice-to-have: Working knowledge of embedded C.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience in medical devices, industrial automation, automotive, aerospace, or defense.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
