Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop FPGA-based hardware and firmware for RF and wireless products, emphasizing size, weight, power, and packaging constraints. Work with cross-functional teams to deliver fieldable solutions on aggressive schedules.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include hardware and FPGA design, system integration, verification, and debugging for RF/wireless products.

  • Architect, implement, and verify FPGA designs and high-speed interfaces for RF products.
  • Develop and maintain HDL code (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog) and manage timing/pin constraints.
  • Integrate FPGA designs with DSP algorithms and peripherals; support algorithm-to-hardware implementation.
  • Bring up and debug hardware and firmware in system-level test and lab environments.
  • Implement and validate high-speed transports and protocols (e.g., JESD204C, multi-Gbps Ethernet, VITA-49).
  • Perform component selection, experimental tests, and analyze results to meet reliability and performance targets.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, RF, and software engineers; produce technical documentation and reports.
  • Support local travel (up to 10%) for integration and testing activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, work-eligibility, and security requirements. Preferred skills listed separately.

Must-have:
  • In-depth HDL experience: VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog.
  • Experience managing pin and timing constraints and debugging complex FPGA designs in system.
  • Experience with high-speed architectures and protocols such as JESD204C and multi-Gbps Ethernet (2.5G–100G).
  • Knowledge of communications systems and RF concepts: modulation/demodulation, channel equalization/estimation, FEC, AFC, AGC.
  • DSP baseband processing and peripheral programming; DSP/FPGA co-design experience.
  • Proficiency with Python, C/C++, and MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm development and integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring up custom hardware with FPGAs/SoCs and debug system-level issues.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and ability to obtain/maintain at least a Secret security clearance.
  • Self-starter with strong communication and teamwork skills.
Nice-to-have:
  • Experience with wireless standards (3GPP LTE, WCDMA, GSM; IEEE 802.11; IEEE 802.15).
  • Mixed-signal design experience and understanding of quantization, SFDR, dynamic range, and RF path imperfections.
  • Experience with SoC families (Ultrascale+, Zynq 7000, Intel Agilex) and softcore processors (MicroBlaze, Picoblaze, NIOS).
  • Experience with DMA/AMBA buses (AXI/AXIS, ACP) and SoC integration.
  • Familiarity with SystemVerilog classes/packages and advanced simulation methodologies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical field (BS in EE or similar) is required. U.S. Citizenship is required; candidates must be willing and able to obtain at least a Secret security clearance.
