Job Title

Senior FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver FPGA firmware for electronic sub-systems across the product lifecycle, from conceptual architecture through implementation, verification and integration. Work on control, communications and DSP platforms within multidisciplinary project teams at ASML's Wilton site.

Experience Level

Senior — requires significant experience. The posting specifies a minimum of 8+ years of relevant design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include FPGA architecture, design, verification and integration with board and system-level hardware.

  • Define FPGA/module architecture, interfaces and design approach; coordinate with PCB and system engineers.
  • Implement RTL designs and integrate vendor IP (hard/soft cores) into FPGA architectures.
  • Create and execute simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, timing-closure and power-optimization processes.
  • Develop and supervise design verification plans at module and system level (test benches, simulation, hardware verification).
  • Produce technical documentation and engineering products following standards and processes.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship; work independently to propose solutions and align with system-level requirements.
  • Participate in integration, qualification and support activities; perform lab testing and troubleshooting on electronics/FPGA boards.
  • Comply with on-site requirements including occasional cleanroom work and safety procedures.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items noted where appropriate.

  • Expert knowledge of FPGA engineering concepts and RTL development using VHDL; experience with SystemVerilog also expected.
  • Proven experience with FPGA verification methodologies (UVM or OSVVM) and test-bench development.
  • Hands-on use of FPGA toolchains and simulators (ModelSim/Questa, Quartus); experience with synthesis, place-and-route, timing constraints and power analysis.
  • Experience with FPGA SoC architectures and bus protocols (AXI, Avalon) and embedded processors (e.g., NIOS).
  • Experience with source control and issue tracking (GIT, JIRA) and familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm validation.
  • Practical lab experience: electronic laboratory equipment, debugging, and use of scripting languages such as Python; LabVIEW experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication; ability to work in project-oriented teams and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work on-site in Wilton, CT and attend in-person meetings, trainings and integration activities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, typically Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering. (Degree requirement stated in the posting.)
