Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement high-performance FPGA digital logic with a firmware/software focus, translating requirements into RTL and low-level software to deliver DSP algorithms, high-speed data protocols, and host integration. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce production-ready FPGA systems supporting national-security customers.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years of hands-on FPGA design and embedded software development (posting lists 5+ years as desired).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include FPGA architecture, IP development, verification, and hardware–software integration for embedded systems.
- Translate software requirements into optimized RTL architecture.
- Design, implement, and test custom IP using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
- Develop low-level C/C++ drivers, Linux kernel modules, and APIs for FPGA–host integration.
- Write comprehensive testbenches (UVM/SystemVerilog) and perform hardware-in-the-loop testing with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Analyze and optimize placement, routing, clock domains, and timing/power closure.
- Support customers, demos, and presentations; travel up to 25%.
- Work on-site in Dayton, OH with periodic days at Wright-Patterson AFB.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and work conditions.
- U.S. citizenship required and ability to obtain or possess a current or recent U.S. Government (DoD) security clearance.
- Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
- Strong programming skills in C and C++; scripting experience in Python or Tcl for automation.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains such as AMD/Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, or Microchip Libero.
- Familiarity with High-Level Synthesis (HLS), DSP techniques, and SoC architectures (e.g., ARM‑Cortex embedded in FPGA).
- Knowledge of high-speed interfaces: PCIe, Ethernet (10G/100G), DDR4/DDR5, and AXI streaming.
- Ability to travel for customer support and presentations (up to 25%).
- Physical requirements: prolonged sitting (up to 8 hours/day), ability to lift up to 25 lbs, normal visual and auditory ability for technical work and demos, and mobility between sites and events.
Preferred:
- 5+ years of hands-on FPGA design and embedded software development.
- Domain experience in RF/SDR, defense, automotive (ADAS), high-frequency trading, or data-center systems.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field is specified.
