Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior FPGA Engineer will architect, design, implement, and verify FPGA-based digital signal processing solutions for tactical SIGINT/EW systems using Xilinx devices. The role collaborates with hardware and software teams to define system specifications, document designs, and deliver production-ready FPGA implementations.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 5+ years of relevant FPGA and RF / software-defined radio experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Architect and implement FPGA solutions for wideband RF signal collection and processing systems.
- Design and implement FPGA algorithms for signal detection and processing (e.g., peak detectors, digital filters, modulation/demodulation, CORDIC, FFT).
- Integrate FPGA logic with RF transceivers and peripheral devices, and support data communication interfaces.
- Work with hardware and software teams to define system-level specifications and architectures.
- Document detailed designs, perform simulation and synthesis, and execute verification and troubleshooting activities.
- Use laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators) to debug and validate systems.
- Support deployment of FPGA designs on tactical SIGINT/EW platforms and provide sustainment as needed.
Requirements
Key qualifications and security/operational requirements.
Must-have:
- 5+ years of related FPGA design experience working on DSP and RF signal processing applications.
- Experience implementing software-defined radio capabilities on FPGAs (peak detectors, filters, modulation/demodulation, CORDIC, FFT).
- Experience with Xilinx Ultrascale and/or Versal FPGA families, including RFSoC architectures.
- VHDL design entry, constraints, simulation, and synthesis experience using Xilinx Vivado.
- Proven ability to debug FPGA-based systems using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators.
- Experience with RF transceiver design across multiple frequency ranges.
- Active Top Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship required) and ability to obtain SCI access.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% (local travel).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience interfacing FPGAs to ARM processors or microcontrollers.
- C/C++ experience in software or embedded firmware environments.
- Experience with Embedded Linux on SBCs or PetaLinux on Xilinx platforms.
- MATLAB experience, especially HDL Coder or Embedded Coder.
- Experience with Altera (Intel) FPGAs and Quartus/Signal Tap toolchains.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience required. The posting permits equivalent experience in place of a degree; specific fields of study were not specified.
