Senior FPGA Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead FPGA-based hardware development for Anello Photonics' integrated photonic navigation products. Deliver FPGA architectures, RTL, verification, and board-level integration from concept to production while coordinating with electrical, firmware, software, manufacturing, and test teams.
Work on SIPHOG™ gyroscope-based navigation systems used in industrial, autonomous, and national-security applications.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires 8+ years of FPGA and embedded hardware development experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for FPGA architecture, RTL design, verification, hardware bring-up, and productization.
- Design, implement, simulate, and debug FPGA code using Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
- Develop high-performance digital architectures for data acquisition, signal processing, communications, and embedded control.
- Integrate and optimize vendor and third-party IP; perform timing closure, resource utilization, and power optimization.
- Develop simulation environments, perform functional verification, and create automated test procedures and validation plans.
- Lead hardware bring-up, PCBA-level debugging, system integration, and lab validation using standard instrumentation.
- Participate in schematic and component reviews, PCB/PCBA development, signal integrity, power distribution, and EMC/EMI considerations.
- Support prototype builds, manufacturing introduction, production ramp, and production test development.
- Produce technical documentation, participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and field issue investigations.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills for the role.
Must-have:
- Proficiency in Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
- Experience with FPGA platforms and toolchains (AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera, Lattice, Microchip).
- Experience with FPGA simulation, verification, hardware debugging, and lab instrumentation.
- Solid understanding of digital electronics, high-speed interfaces, embedded systems, and electronic product development.
- Experience supporting products from prototype through production.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with DDR memory, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, DSP, or real-time signal processing applications.
- Experience with embedded processors and SoC FPGA platforms.
- Familiarity with Altium, Cadence Allegro, OrCAD, or similar schematic and PCB design tools.
- Knowledge of DFM/DFT, manufacturing test development, EMC compliance, and production test methodologies.
- Experience with low-power, industrial, or ruggedized embedded systems.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (BSEE or MSEE, CE or related field).
