Senior Firmware Engineer (Taiwan)
Role Summary
Work on low-level firmware and system software that maximizes the performance of Etched's inference-focused hardware. You'll collaborate with hardware and software engineers across the stack to deliver production-quality drivers, firmware, and supporting software for AI inference products.
The role is based in Taipei and expects in-person collaboration with engineering teams in Taipei and San Jose.
Experience Level
Senior β requires significant industry experience. The posting specifies ~8+ years of software development experience and multiple multi-year requirements in firmware and embedded systems.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include designing, implementing, and validating firmware and system software to support Etched's AI inference hardware.
- Design and optimize firmware, drivers, and low-level software to improve chip throughput and latency.
- Co-develop solutions with hardware and software teams; integrate across chip, rack, and software stacks.
- Implement and maintain interfaces (APIs, drivers) for embedded and host systems.
- Debug and troubleshoot firmware, IO, and system-level issues in complex hardware environments.
- Review code, enforce best practices for style, testing, correctness, and efficiency.
- Support product testing, release activities, and post-release troubleshooting.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.
- Strong programming skills in C++, Rust, and/or Python.
- Experience with embedded systems, high-performance computing, or distributed systems.
- Deep understanding of computer architecture and operating systems.
- 8 years of software development experience; strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
- 5+ years of firmware design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- 5+ years working with embedded architectures and IO technologies (I2C, SPI, PCIe, DRAM) and concerns such as scalability, fault tolerance, and consistency.
- 5+ years testing and launching software products; 3+ years in software design and architecture.
- Ability to develop solutions for ambiguous problems and to review and mentor other engineers.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is required. Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
