Role Summary

The Senior Firmware Engineer will design and develop FPGA/firmware for imaging products, moving prototypes through ground and flight testing to production. You will work on the Imaging team with electrical, software, and systems engineers to integrate firmware with sensors and embedded processors.

Experience Level

Senior - 10+ years of experience in HDL/firmware development for FPGA devices.

Responsibilities

Deliver FPGA and firmware designs from architecture through validation and product maturation, and collaborate across disciplines to integrate firmware with hardware and software.

• Lead FPGA architecture, design reviews, and development standards.
• Design, simulate, and integrate VHDL/Verilog RTL into FPGAs or SoCs for performance, resource, and power goals.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and systems engineers for processor bring-up and board support.
• Develop testbenches and perform lab validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other tools.
• Optimize algorithms for hardware acceleration and efficient use of on-chip buses (e.g., AXI/AXI-Stream).
• Prototype firmware for ground and flight testing, then iterate toward production readiness.
• Maintain version control and participate in code/design reviews.

Requirements

Must-have:

• 10+ years developing HDL firmware for FPGA devices.
• Expertise in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog for RTL design.
• Experience with industry FPGA toolchains (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus).
• Strong hardware/software debugging skills using standard lab equipment.
• Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with multi-gigabit SERDES, DDR interfaces, Ethernet MAC/PHY, SPI, I2C.
• Embedded software experience (timers, interrupts, peripherals) and embedded Linux device drivers.
• Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, and infrared image sensor technology.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is typically required.
