Senior Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
The Server Security Processor Firmware team seeks a senior firmware engineer to design, develop, and debug firmware for AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualization and Trusted I/O. The role delivers firmware and test suites for new processors, collaborates with customers and partners, and coordinates across engineering and product teams to integrate security features.
Experience Level
Senior-level (typically 7+ years of relevant firmware or low-level software development experience).
Responsibilities
Implement and verify firmware features for server security and confidential computing. Key responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and debug low-level firmware for Secure Encrypted Virtualization and Trusted I/O.
- Develop test suites and validation plans for new processor releases and pre-silicon environments.
- Support processor, board, and ASIC new-product bring-up, including hardware debug and JTAG use.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, customers, and partners to define requirements and resolve technical issues.
- Integrate firmware with virtualization stacks, hypervisors, and the Linux kernel where required.
- Follow secure coding practices and participate in design and code reviews.
- Document designs, test results, and debugging findings; mentor junior engineers as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven low-level software or embedded firmware development experience.
- Strong C and C++ programming skills.
- Experience with computer architecture and assembly-level programming/optimizations.
- Experience with processor, board, or ASIC new-product bring-up and hardware debug tools (e.g., JTAG).
- Experience with source control systems such as git and solid software engineering practices.
- Experience with RTOS or other embedded OS environments.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; excellent verbal and written communication.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with x86 server platforms, virtualization, hypervisors/VMs, and Linux kernel development.
- Experience with Rust, GoogleTest, pre-silicon FPGA or simulation environments.
- Familiarity with PCIe, TDISP, SPDM, IOMMU, Secure Boot, TPM, AES/DES/RSA, AMD Secure Memory Encryption, and Trusted IO concepts.
- Experience with security-focused firmware and confidential computing technologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
