Senior Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
Join the firmware team building Morse Micro's embedded IoT software stack for low-cost, RTOS-based devices. Work closely with Analog, Systems and Digital IC engineers to design, implement, and maintain firmware for 802.11ah features, device drivers, and network integration.
Primary focus: firmware development, performance and power optimisations, test tooling in Python, and debugging across the hardware–software boundary.
Experience Level
Senior engineer. Requires 5+ years of relevant industry experience in embedded software projects.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop RTOS-based device drivers and firmware components.
- Implement and integrate network stack and protocol layers; debug network interactions.
- Implement upper layers of the 802.11ah standard in firmware.
- Optimize firmware for performance, footprint, and power consumption.
- Write Python scripts and tools to support testing, development, and automation.
- Troubleshoot, debug and resolve customer-reported issues; support customer feature requests.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 5+ years of industry experience in embedded software projects.
- Proven firmware development experience in C.
- Experience porting and using FreeRTOS or RT-Thread, including bootloaders, device drivers, interrupt handlers and DMA routines.
- Linux driver and application development experience.
- Experience with software version control and issue tracking systems.
- Familiarity with ARM Cortex and RISC-V architectures and instruction sets.
- Experience with hardware interfaces such as SDIO, SPI and I2C.
- Proficient using Python for tooling and test automation.
- Experience with static analysis and automated testing tools.
Nice-to-have:
- Understanding of IEEE 802.11 standards, including 802.11 security model.
- Experience using Wireshark for testing and debugging 802.11 systems.
Education Requirements
BSc in Electrical, Electronics, Communication Engineering or Computer Science.
