Job Title

Senior Field Applications Engineer

Role Summary

Serve as the principal technical interface for Microchip's Power Electronics portfolio in the India (Pune) territory, driving design wins, qualification and production release. Work with Sales, distribution partners and internal Business Units to deliver system-level solutions that may include analog, timing, microcontrollers and RF power where relevant.

Primary focus on hands-on support during validation, qualification, production ramp and sustaining engineering through volume manufacture.

Experience Level

Senior — minimum 5 years of relevant experience in power electronics design, switch-mode power supply development, hardware design, application engineering or field applications engineering.

Responsibilities

Accountable for technical customer engagement across the full design cycle and for converting design opportunities into qualified, production designs.

  • Identify, develop and convert design opportunities across the Power Electronics portfolio; maintain pipeline with Sales and distribution.
  • Analyse customer system requirements and recommend system-level Microchip solutions (power management ICs, SiC MOSFETs, gate drivers, modules, analog and timing products).
  • Provide hands-on support from concept and schematic review through PCB layout, prototype bring-up, validation, qualification and production ramp.
  • Perform fault diagnosis, efficiency/thermal/EMI optimisation, root-cause analysis of qualification failures and resolution during production ramp.
  • Collaborate with microcontroller and DSC teams to integrate controller selection, firmware and development tools into power solutions.
  • Deliver technical presentations, customer training, seminars and maintain application notes, demo setups and training materials.
  • Work cross-functionally with Sales, Business Units and factory applications; monitor competitive offerings and industry trends to inform roadmap and positioning.

Requirements

Core technical competencies and professional attributes required for satisfactory performance in the role.

  • Minimum five years' relevant experience in power-electronics design, switch-mode power supplies, hardware design, application or field applications engineering.
  • Sound command of power electronics fundamentals and switching-power design: non-isolated DC-DC, isolated converters, AC-DC supplies, battery systems and motor control.
  • Experience with MOSFET and gate-driver selection, power-management ICs, analog signal conditioning and current sensing, feedback-loop design and compensation.
  • Working knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation and thermal management; ability to review power-stage PCB layout and grounding strategy.
  • Hands-on competence with lab instrumentation: oscilloscope, power analyser, electronic loads, function generators and programmable DC supplies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; demonstrated ability to present to engineering and management audiences and to conduct training.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent customer engagements independently and willingness to travel within the region for customer visits and training.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with SiC/wide-bandgap devices, advanced topologies (LLC, phase-shifted full-bridge, PFC), digital power control, SPICE simulation and EDA tools for schematic/PCB review; RF-power amplifier experience is an advantage.

Education Requirements

Diploma, Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical & Electronics, or Power Electronics Engineering.
