Job Title

Senior Field Applications Engineer

Role Summary

Act as the principal technical interface for customers, distributors and sales across the India region to generate design wins and revenue for Microchip’s Power Electronics portfolio. Provide hands-on support through concept, validation, qualification, production release and sustaining support, positioning system-level solutions that combine power, analog, timing and microcontroller products.

Experience Level

Senior-level: minimum 5 years of relevant experience in power electronics design, application engineering, or field applications engineering.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership across the design cycle and support commercial objectives.

  • Develop and convert design opportunities to meet regional design-win and revenue targets; maintain pipeline with sales and distribution.
  • Analyze customer system requirements and recommend complete Microchip solutions across power, analog, timing and controller products.
  • Support concept, schematic, PCB layout, prototype bring-up and optimisation.
  • Lead validation, qualification testing and failure analysis; drive issues to resolution until designs are in stable volume manufacture.
  • Support production release, ramp, yield, programming and sustaining activities.
  • Provide application support for switch-mode power conversion, motor control and silicon carbide wide-bandgap solutions.
  • Advise on RF power opportunities where applicable, including device selection, matching and thermal design.
  • Collaborate with microcontroller and DSC teams to deliver hardware-plus-firmware solutions and provide first-level firmware guidance.
  • Deliver technical presentations, training, demos and maintain application materials.
  • Work cross-functionally with sales, business units and factory teams; monitor competitors and market trends.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional attributes.

  • Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in power electronics design, SMPS development, hardware design, application engineering or field applications engineering.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics fundamentals, switching power supply design and control-loop compensation.
  • Hands-on experience with non-isolated and isolated DC-DC converters, AC-DC supplies, battery systems and motor control applications.
  • Working familiarity with power MOSFETs, gate-driver design, power-management ICs, analog signal conditioning and EMI/EMC mitigation.
  • Practical laboratory skills with oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads and programmable supplies.
  • Good written and verbal communication; ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations and training.
  • Ability to manage multiple customer engagements independently and travel within the region for customer support and training.

Preferred:

  • Experience with advanced topologies (LLC, phase-shifted full-bridge, PFC) and wide-bandgap devices (SiC MOSFETs, diodes, modules).
  • Experience with digital power control, embedded C and microcontroller peripheral configuration for application-level debugging.
  • Simulation and EDA experience (SPICE, Altium, OrCAD/Allegro, Cadence, Mentor/Siemens, KiCad).
  • Hands-on RF power amplifier experience and familiarity with regional and international standards for industrial, automotive or energy equipment.

Education Requirements

Diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical & Electronics, or Power Electronics Engineering.
