Job Title

Senior Field Applications Engineer

Role Summary

As an Embedded Solutions / Field Applications Engineer specializing in FPGAs, you will provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support, lead system-architecture discussions, and drive customer adoption of Microchip FPGA solutions. You will work closely with Sales, Marketing, and global product teams to convert design wins into production and revenue.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting requests 5–7+ years of relevant FPGA design or applications experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Partner with Sales and Marketing to deliver pre-sales and post-sales FPGA technical support across all phases of customer adoption.
  • Apply client engagement processes to convert design wins into revenue at strategic accounts.
  • Lead system-architecture discussions, design reviews, and board-level schematic reviews.
  • Own programmable-logic design activities: requirements analysis, HDL/RTL development and simulation, synthesis optimization, place-and-route constraints, timing closure, and hardware debug.
  • Support embedded-processor integration and software/hardware co-debugging through production.
  • Deliver product training, technical overviews, seminars, and workshops for customers and internal teams.
  • Collaborate with global teams to develop account strategies and provide actionable feedback to product divisions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

  • Deep knowledge of FPGA devices (Microchip/Microsemi, Xilinx, or Altera) and Verilog or VHDL.
  • Hands-on experience with FPGA toolchains such as Libero, Vivado, or Quartus, and familiarity with synthesis and simulation EDA tools.
  • Experience with high-speed serial transceivers and interfaces (PCIe, DDR3/4, LPDDR3/4, MIPI).
  • Experience integrating embedded soft-core or ASIC-based CPUs (RISC-V or ARM); working knowledge of C and Linux-based development and debugging.
  • Strong system-level debugging skills and the ability to manage multiple customer engagements concurrently.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills for client-facing technical leadership.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with hardware security concepts (secure boot, encryption/authentication, key management, PUFs) and HSM-based provisioning.
  • Experience with software debugging tools like Keil, IAR, or Eclipse and building/customizing Linux images.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline (examples listed: EEE, ECE, EIC, ETC, VLSI). The posting specifies degree-level engineering qualifications; no certifications or explicit "equivalent experience" language was provided.
