Senior Etch Process Engineer

Role Summary

Work on the Etch Samples team within SPTS to develop plasma etch processes, support customer wafer processing using demonstration equipment, and provide technical reporting and field support. The role supports process demonstrations, process development, hardware testing, and customer-facing technical activities.

Occasional domestic and international travel and occasional shift work may be required.

Senior - experienced engineer; role expects several years of relevant semiconductor process experience (explicit years not specified).

Responsibilities

Deliver etch process development, demonstrations, and customer support across SPTS platforms and product modules.

• Develop and demonstrate plasma etch processes to meet agreed specifications and customer requirements.
• Assess results using analytical equipment and software; perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Plan and execute long-duration testing and optimisations; use endpoint detection techniques to improve control.
• Support hardware testing and development activities when required.
• Provide factory and field-based technical support to customers and global support teams.
• Document work through technical reports, presentations, and contributions to IP submissions.
• Collaborate in cross-functional projects to support new products and technologies.

• Proven experience with plasma etch processing in a semiconductor environment.
• Experience with semiconductor metrology techniques and analytical evaluation of process results.
• Practical knowledge of endpoint detection techniques and process control methods.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational and time-management skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication; ability to produce clear technical reports and presentations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, and to build customer relationships.
• Willingness to travel internationally and perform occasional shift work.
• Nice-to-have: SEM experience and direct hardware testing experience.

Education Requirements

A PhD, Master's degree, or Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is acceptable; candidates with equivalent qualifications and hands-on semiconductor process engineering experience are also encouraged. (The posting accepts equivalent practical experience in lieu of listed degrees.)
