Senior Engineer, System Calibration (Electro-Optics)
Role Summary
Lead the end-to-end calibration strategy for electro-optic subsystems used in prototype quantum-computing modules. The role spans hardware, firmware, and software and focuses on uptime, scalability, automation, and repeatability across integration and deployment stages.
Work cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, software, and operations teams to deliver robust, automated calibration routines and system-level validation support.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical background: M.S. +5 years industry experience or Ph.D. +3 years (detailed in Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Accountable for defining, implementing, and validating calibration approaches that scale from lab prototypes to production subsystems.
- Own and drive calibration strategy for electro-optic subsystems through concept, integration, and deployment with uptime and scalability targets.
- Consolidate and structure calibration and operational data for components and sub-assemblies.
- Lead system-level calibration risk analysis and mitigation across hardware, firmware, and software interfaces.
- Develop requirements for hardware, firmware, and software to meet performance and uptime goals.
- Build modeling and analytical tools to predict how component calibrations interact at system scale and to model uptime impact.
- Prototype calibrations on benchtop setups and specify test requirements for integration testing.
- Implement calibration procedures in control software and integrate them into the system software stack.
- Provide system-level validation support, debugging, and root-cause analysis during prototyping and integration.
- Lead cross-functional working groups to align on high-risk calibrations and deployment plans.
Requirements

- Hands-on experience designing, characterizing, or calibrating electro-optic devices and subsystems.
- Experience developing and integrating complex systems spanning optical and electronic hardware, firmware, software, and data acquisition.
- Proven ability to translate technical concepts into clear requirements, models, and system frameworks.
- Experience writing control or calibration software and integrating routines into a larger software stack.
- Experience with system-level modeling, tracking calibration time vs. uptime, and identifying optimization opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical efforts and drive alignment across teams.
- Strong debugging, validation, and root-cause analysis skills at system integration levels.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with integrated photonics, RF systems, or high-speed optical switching.
- Experience scaling calibration procedures for experimental or production environments with high reliability needs.
- Experience documenting system architectures, experimental processes, or hardware designs in a structured way.
- Interest or prior work in quantum computing or related advanced technologies.
Education Requirements
