Senior Engineer, SSD System
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Senior Engineer, SSD System
Role Summary
As an SSD System Design Engineer at Micron Technology, you will define system-level architecture, lead integration and product execution, and ensure SSD products meet performance, power, reliability and customer requirements across firmware, hardware, NAND, validation and manufacturing.
Experience Level
Senior-level. 6–10 years of relevant experience in SSD, storage, or system engineering; experience across the product development lifecycle from design through high-volume manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Lead system architecture, integration, validation, and debug across the SSD product lifecycle and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready products.
- Define and drive system-level architecture and design specifications for SSD products.
- Translate product requirements into system-level design and trade-offs; set performance, power, thermal, and reliability targets.
- Ensure subsystem integration across firmware, ASIC, hardware, and NAND.
- Lead system integration from silicon bring-up through qualification and production ramp.
- Drive product characterization: performance, power, margin analysis, and system behavior evaluation.
- Lead complex system-level debug and failure analysis across firmware, hardware, and NAND; identify root cause and drive resolution.
- Define validation strategy, test architecture and Master Test Plan; improve testability and validation efficiency.
- Lead cross-functional technical alignment, architecture reviews, design decisions, and risk mitigation.
- Provide system-level technical support to internal teams and customers; support field issue resolution and manufacturability improvements.
- Integrate AI-assisted tools and data-driven insights into system analysis, debug, and validation workflows.
Requirements
Required technical skills, experience, and professional attributes for this role.
- 6–10 years of relevant SSD, storage, or system engineering experience, including product development through manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of SSD architecture (controller, NAND, DRAM).
- Knowledge of PCIe/NVMe, SATA or SAS interfaces (PCIe/NVMe preferred).
- Experience with system-level debug, failure analysis, integration, and performance characterization.
- Programming skills in Python and/or C.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective cross-functional communication, ownership, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment and work with global teams.
- Preferred: experience with enterprise/datacenter SSDs, PCIe Gen5/Gen6 or advanced NVMe features, system modeling/performance simulation tools, and high-volume manufacturing.
Education Requirements
