Senior Engineer, Silicon Photonics

Role Summary

Design and develop silicon photonic devices, circuits and subsystems for optical engines. Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to perform layout, modeling, characterization and integration of photonic components into advanced systems.

This role focuses on device and circuit design, simulation-driven optimization, and collaboration with fabrication and test teams to mature photonic technology and contribute to IP and roadmaps.

Experience Level

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include:

• Design and layout of passive and active photonic devices, circuits and subsystems.
• Perform advanced optical, thermal and RF modeling and simulations to inform design and development decisions.
• Characterize, evaluate and debug fabricated photonic devices and refine designs based on measurement results.
• Participate in design reviews, prepare documentation, and improve design methodologies.
• Contribute to IP generation and help define technology roadmaps.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable control and integration of photonic circuits into larger systems.

• Must-have: Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience in silicon photonics or closely related fields.
• Must-have: Hands-on experience in design and layout of passive and active photonic devices, circuits and subsystems.
• Must-have: Strong mathematical and computational modeling skills; experience with Matlab or Python.
• Must-have: Familiarity with photonics design and simulation tools (for example, Lumerical, Tidy3D, or similar).
• Must-have: Solid understanding of silicon photonics fabrication, packaging and testing methods.
• Must-have: Strong background in physics, electromagnetics and integrated optics.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with high-speed photonic devices and subsystems.

Education Requirements
