Job Title

Senior Engineer, Process Development — Thin Films (CVD/Diffusion), NAND

Role Summary

The Senior Engineer will develop and qualify thin film processes (CVD/Diffusion) for advanced NAND technology by designing and executing experiments, characterizing films, troubleshooting process and tool issues, and supporting process transfer into manufacturing.

The role works within a process development team and collaborates with process integration, metrology, failure analysis, yield, manufacturing, and equipment partners to ensure manufacturable, reliable thin film processes.

Experience Level

Senior — the posting specifies PhD, or Master’s with ≥3 years, or Bachelor’s with ≥5 years of relevant experience; R&D/process-development experience expected.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include process development, experiment execution, characterization, and transfer to manufacturing.

  • Develop, optimize, and characterize thin film CVD/diffusion processes to meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets.
  • Design and execute experiments (DOE/SPC), analyze results, and present findings to technical audiences.
  • Perform film characterization (examples: SEM, TEM, XPS, SIMS, AFM) and correlate characterization results to process outcomes.
  • Support process transfer and pilot line execution; sustain process maturity and capability for owned processes.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams (Process Integration, Metrology, Surface/Characterization, Electrical FA, Yield, Manufacturing, equipment vendors) to deliver robust processes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, produce technical reports, and record experimental learnings.
  • Integrate AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency and quality, following organizational standards.

Requirements

Must-have technical and professional skills. Degree and field requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.

  • Fundamentals of thin film deposition (CVD/diffusion) and film characterization techniques.
  • DOE/SPC basics with ability to analyze experimental data and draw conclusions.
  • Understanding of plasma and vacuum systems and process-chemistry relationships where applicable.
  • Experience in an R&D/process development environment; disciplined experimental execution.
  • Structured problem-solving, learning agility, clear communication, and effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Preferred: exposure to dielectric or carbon-based films and NAND structural/electrical requirements; experience with equipment suppliers, tool qualification, or process transfer activities.

Education Requirements

PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; or Master’s degree plus ≥3 years relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree plus ≥5 years relevant experience.
