Senior Engineer, Power Systems Design - Data Center GPU
Role Summary
Join AMD's MI Platform Power Design Team to architect, design, and verify power converters and power delivery networks for data-center GPUs and high-performance compute platforms.
Location: Austin, TX. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities
Design, validate, and support power delivery for high-performance GPU/SoC platforms; collaborate across functions to move architecture into silicon and board implementations.
- Architect, design, analyze, and verify power systems and full power delivery networks (PDNs) for high-performance CPUs/GPUs/APUs.
- Model and validate PDN impedance and voltage-droop targets; verify power-supply integrity via lab and in-silicon measurements.
- Provide component selection guidance and detailed PCB/layout recommendations during design execution.
- Develop system-level validation test plans and procedures; characterize design margins for power domains.
- Collaborate with SoC and system architects, board validation teams, and external partners to drive power-delivery technology decisions.
- Run feasibility studies, perform solution trade-offs, and translate architecture into system and silicon implementations.
- Mentor and technically review work produced by junior power engineers.
Requirements
Core technical skills and hands-on experience required for successful performance in this role.
Must-have
- Proven understanding of power supply architectures and PDN for server, OAM, or PCIe environments.
- Printed circuit board design experience and familiarity with PCB layout trade-offs for power delivery.
- Hands-on experience with multi-phase buck/buck-boost regulators, PMICs, LDOs, charge pumps, and power-stage components.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools (examples: OrCAD, Allegro).
- Experience with analog circuit modeling and simulation tools (e.g., Simplis, PSpice, HSpice).
- Solid knowledge of control theory: closed-loop compensation, stability analysis, and phase margin.
- Proficiency using lab equipment (oscilloscope, electronic load, function generator) and performing measurements.
- Ability to develop system-level test plans and validate power design margins.
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers.
Nice-to-have
- Working knowledge of 2D/2.5D EM simulation tools such as Sigrity PowerDC/PowerSI or SiWave.
- Experience in high-frequency magnetics design for power electronics.
- Familiarity with AMD's SVIx power-management interface.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred) as stated in the posting.
