Senior Engineer - Physical Design
Role Summary
Work on physical implementation, signoff checks and methodology improvements for Arm cores, systems and SoCs within the Solutions Engineering team. The team validates RTL-to-Gate and Gate-to-GDS flows to enable high-quality silicon tapeouts.
Experience Level
Senior - 8+ years of ASIC/SoC implementation experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Synthesis, floorplanning, placement, routing and implementation from RTL to GDS for Arm IP and SoCs.
- Lead synthesis and timing-constraints development and provide technical leadership during implementation and signoff.
- Analyze timing, area and power; propose optimizations to improve IP quality and signoff margins.
- Develop and deploy implementation methodologies and automation to improve efficiency and results.
- Perform detailed implementation analysis and data-mining; support ECO cycles and signoff iterations.
- Collaborate with RTL design and physical IP teams to drive analysis and optimization.
- Create automation and scripting to accelerate execution and reporting.
Requirements
Must-have:
- 8+ years of proven experience in ASIC SoC implementation flow from RTL to GDS, including tape-outs of multi-million gate designs.
- Proven experience with synthesis, timing constraints development and timing closure for build and signoff.
- Hands-on knowledge of ECO implementation and signoff flows (LEC, CLP, ECO cycles).
- Strong initiative, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Scripting and programming (Tcl, Shell, Perl, Python) for automation and data presentation.
- Experience with low-power design techniques (power gating, voltage/frequency scaling).
- Experience with Verilog RTL design and understanding of DFT modes and their implications on physical design.
Education Requirements
Master's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant technical field. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable where explicitly stated.
