Role Summary
Firmware engineer in the SCG-FW division working on Boot ROM/bootloader firmware, test firmware, and supporting software for embedded controllers used by major computer manufacturers. Role is based in Hauppauge and contributes to product readiness for production.
Primary responsibilities include defining firmware architecture, implementing and unit-testing firmware features on ARM-based processors, developing test suites and utilities, and integrating/debugging on evaluation hardware (FPGA, dev boards). Work closely with Validation, Test and QA teams to resolve issues.
Experience Level
Senior — the posting requests 5–7 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
The position focuses on bootloader firmware development, test development, and cross-team support to achieve production-quality parts.
- Define firmware architecture and outline design per product specifications.
- Implement and modify embedded firmware in C/C++ for new and existing products.
- Create unit-test firmware, test suites, and software utilities for embedded processors and on-chip functional blocks.
- Perform hardware bring-up and debug using FPGA and evaluation boards.
- Maintain software design documentation and write test reports for added features.
- Establish firmware guidelines and best practices for the team.
- Collaborate with Validation, Test, QA and project teams to identify/mitigate risks and resolve design issues.
- Conduct software requirements analysis, risk analysis, and performance analysis.
Requirements
Key technical skills and practical experience required or strongly preferred.
Must-have:
- Proven experience in embedded C/C++ programming for microcontrollers/processors.
- Experience with ARM Cortex-M architectures (example: M4, M55).
- Experience using debugging tools and electronics lab equipment to troubleshoot embedded systems.
- Familiarity with common embedded interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, USB) and on-chip functional blocks.
- Ability to develop and maintain software design documentation and test reports; strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Microchip PIC firmware and MPLAB, Keil, or Visual Studio toolchains.
- Experience writing test automation or scripts in Python or Perl.
- Hands-on experience with FPGA development or other hardware development platforms.
- Familiarity with security/crypto algorithms (AES, HASH, ECC, PQC).
