Senior Engineer - Firmware Development (SSD)
Role Summary
The Senior Engineer, Firmware Development (SSD) develops, validates, optimizes, and debugs high-performance SSD controller firmware across the product lifecycle. The role works with hardware, validation, system, and product teams to meet performance, reliability, power-efficiency, and quality targets while mentoring junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior β requires significant practical experience in firmware or embedded systems. The posting specifies over 3 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Execute firmware design, testing, and debugging tasks to deliver high-quality SSD controller firmware and related IP subsystems.
- Design and implement firmware IP subsystems to meet performance, endurance, capacity, and reliability requirements.
- Perform firmware development, integration, bench testing, validation, and debugging for SSD controllers and storage products.
- Conduct root-cause analysis, failure triage, and defect isolation; document findings and support corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain unit, functional, and integration tests for firmware quality and performance verification.
- Collaborate with hardware, validation, system, and product engineering to resolve cross-domain issues and improve product readiness.
- Analyze firmware behavior and implement enhancements to improve performance, reduce latency, and lower power consumption.
- Provide technical status updates and documentation to management and stakeholders.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of firmware practices and toolchains.
- Integrate AI-assisted tools responsibly where they improve efficiency, quality, or effectiveness.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required for this role; preferred items are listed separately.
- Proven embedded firmware development experience in C for controllers or SoCs.
- Experience with firmware debugging, issue isolation, code analysis, and validation methodologies.
- Low-level software development experience, including assembly language and hardware-software interaction.
- Experience writing and maintaining firmware unit, functional, and integration tests.
- Strong problem-solving, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to document findings clearly and drive corrective actions from failure analysis.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and providing technical leadership.
Nice-to-have:
- Python for automation and tooling.
- Experience with PCIe and NVMe storage interfaces.
- Experience with SSD products, NAND flash, or other non-volatile storage technologies.
- Familiarity with applying AI-enabled tools responsibly for development and analysis.
Education Requirements
B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
