Senior Engineer, Ethernet IP
TenstorrentJob Title
Senior Engineer, Ethernet IP
Role Summary
Design, develop, and optimize low-level firmware that interfaces with Ethernet MAC, PHY, and SerDes hardware for high-performance AI platforms. The role bridges silicon bring-up, firmware, and networking to ensure reliable, high-throughput connectivity across large-scale systems.
This position works with Ethernet IP (third-party and in-house), silicon architects, RTL engineers, and network software teams to enable and validate networking subsystems in the lab and on target platforms.
Experience Level
Senior level. Exact seniority and offer will be determined during the interview process.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities focus on the hardware–software boundary for networking subsystems:
- Develop and maintain bare-metal/low-level firmware for Ethernet MAC, PHY, and SerDes components.
- Drive silicon bring-up and lab validation of networking subsystems across prototype platforms.
- Implement and optimize link-training algorithms and auto-negotiation protocols.
- Configure SerDes/PHY settings and tune performance for signal integrity and timing.
- Debug complex hardware–software interactions, including timing, protocol, and signal-integrity issues.
- Collaborate with silicon architects and RTL teams to influence future networking hardware from a firmware perspective.
- Work with network software teams to translate hardware constraints into software requirements and ensure end-to-end interoperability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for this role:
- Proven experience developing low-level firmware that controls Ethernet MAC, PHY, and SerDes components.
- Hands-on experience with silicon bring-up and lab validation of networking subsystems.
- Practical knowledge of link-training, auto-negotiation, and PHY/PCS/MAC behavior.
- Experience debugging signal integrity and protocol-level timing issues using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
- Ability to work cross-functionally with RTL designers, silicon architects, and network software engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience integrating third-party Ethernet IP into SoCs or platforms.
- Familiarity with high-performance compute, AI accelerator platforms, or RISC-V-based systems.
- Prior influence on silicon architecture from a firmware or systems perspective.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
