Job Title

Senior Engineer, Edge Systems Architecture

Role Summary

Join Micron's Mobile & Client Business Unit (MCBU) Systems Lab to define and optimize memory and storage architectures for Edge (mobile and client) platforms. The role focuses on system-level architecture, performance/power trade-offs, and integrating AI-enabled workflows to accelerate analysis and design decisions.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 5+ years of relevant industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Analyze, design, evaluate, and communicate system-level memory/storage architecture for Edge platforms.

  • Define architectural requirements for memory/storage subsystems based on market and competitive analysis.
  • Develop and evaluate memory/storage architectures to optimize cost, performance, and power.
  • Define and measure cost, performance, and power metrics for Edge platforms; perform detailed analyses.
  • Analyze controller and subsystem architecture trade-offs affecting system performance.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software, and product teams to solve complex system-level problems.
  • Identify and implement AI-enabled automation for benchmark processing, profiling, root-cause analysis, and reporting.
  • Integrate AI capabilities into tools, simulations, and validation flows while ensuring data security and traceability.
  • Document and validate AI-assisted workflows, and measure their impact on efficiency and insight generation.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.

  • Proven experience with DRAM/NAND IP, SoC/IP development, or systems architecture and analysis for Client/Server/Mobile SoCs.
  • Experience with CPU, GPU, image processors, AI processors, DDR memory technologies, and system-level development.
  • Experience in SoC or memory-chip build and system development workflows.
  • Expertise in benchmark analysis (power, performance, thermal) and proficiency with profiling tools.
  • Strong knowledge of computer and memory/storage architecture and the ability to translate measurements into architecture recommendations.
  • Practical experience applying AI/ML methods and tools to architecture, performance analysis, and design-space exploration.
  • Experience evaluating AI workloads across CPUs, GPUs, NPU/AI accelerators, and memory/storage subsystems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally; self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DDR/LPDDR5/5x, PCIe, NVMe, and other interface protocols.
  • Exposure to custom hardware platform development.
  • Experience with generative AI and AI-supported engineering tools.

Education Requirements

BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience.
