Senior Engineer, Development Product Engineering
Allegro MicroSystemsJob Title
Senior Engineer, Development Product Engineering
Role Summary
Design and implement automated test solutions for semiconductor devices from product definition through high-volume production release. Collaborate with Design, Product Validation, Systems Engineering, and Manufacturing to define test plans, develop ATE programs, and design test hardware to ensure robust coverage, optimized test time, and smooth product transitions to manufacturing.
Expect to lead technical activities for test program development, validation, yield optimization, and global production support while mentoring junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting specifies a minimum of 5 years in the semiconductor industry; it also references 3–5 years of industry experience when coupled with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities focus on test program development, validation, and production readiness.
- Develop and maintain multi-site ATE test programs and manage software revisions (C/C++ and ETS) with emphasis on modularity and reuse.
- Design and validate test hardware; perform bench-to-ATE correlation and root-cause analysis on hardware marginalities.
- Monitor data and yield metrics (Cpk, guardbanding, Part Average Analysis) to identify outliers and prevent field failures.
- Review and implement Design for Test (DFT) features to reduce test time and improve fault coverage.
- Lead Product Test Capability (PTC) activities and document validation deliverables for production release approval.
- Serve as primary technical contact for offshore manufacturing during production ramps and resolve complex setup and yield issues.
- Review technical documentation prepared by junior engineers and coordinate reliability stress-test hardware generation.
- Mentor E1 engineers, manage Software Origination Form (SOF) under formal control, and participate in global test technology forums.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce test time-to-release (TTR) and improve gross margin via software/hardware optimizations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Minimum 5 years of semiconductor industry experience with hands-on ATE and test program development.
- Proficiency in developing and maintaining ATE software (C/C++ and ETS) and managing software revisions.
- Experience with test hardware design, validation, and bench-to-ATE correlation to meet automotive accuracy requirements.
- Strong data analytics skills for yield optimization, guardbanding, Cpk monitoring, and part-average analysis.
- Familiarity with Probe Test, Final Test, Qualification, Reliability processes, and Design for Test (DFT) features.
- Proven ability to support global production deployment and independently resolve complex manufacturing setup/yield issues.
- Experience leading PTC activities, creating validation deliverables, and presenting results to cross-functional teams and management.
- Demonstrated mentoring or technical leadership experience; effective cross-functional communication skills.
Education Requirements
Posting requests a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; the text also allows equivalent practical experience. No specific field of study is mandated. The posting pairs a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) with 3–5 years of industry experience and separately states a minimum of 5 years in the semiconductor industry.
