Senior Engineer, AI Kernel

Role Summary

Develop and optimize software delivered with Tenstorrent's AI and RISC-V hardware IP to enable customer integrations across firmware, drivers, system tools, and APIs. Work with hardware engineering, IP delivery, customer support, and product teams to ensure robust, high-performance software for diverse customer architectures.

This is a hybrid role based out of Toronto, ON; Austin, TX; or Santa Clara, CA.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver software components and integration deliverables that enable customers to use Tenstorrent IP in their systems.

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain bare-metal firmware, device drivers, system tools, SDKs, and APIs for IP customers.
  • Build reference software, toolchains, and test suites to streamline customer integration and bring-up.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware/software interaction issues during customer bring-up and deployment.
  • Produce high-quality documentation, integration guides, and example code for IP deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware architects, firmware teams, and customer-facing teams to improve software usability and portability.
  • Provide customer-facing technical support during integration and handoff.

Requirements

Core technical skills and abilities required to perform the role.

Must-have:

  • Proven experience in C/C++ and system-level software development.
  • Experience with low-level software design, firmware, or device drivers for embedded systems.
  • Strong system-level debugging and troubleshooting skills across hardware/software boundaries.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and external customers to resolve integration issues.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with parallel processing and SIMD architectures (SSE, AVX, Arm Neon).
  • GPU programming experience (CUDA, OpenCL) or experience with accelerator toolchains.
  • Familiarity with RISC-V, AI silicon, SDK/toolchain development, or hardware-software co-design.
  • Experience producing customer-facing documentation and integration test suites.
