Job Title

Senior Engineer

Role Summary

This role is in Arm's Solutions Engineering group and focuses on physical implementation and optimization of CPU cores, system interconnect and other SoC designs. The engineer will develop and apply implementation methodologies, work with EDA tools, and collaborate with RTL and IP teams to improve power, performance, area and manufacturability.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically requires 3+ years of experience in ASIC implementation, physical design, STA and timing closure.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include end-to-end physical implementation and verification of complex blocks and SoCs, and enabling partners to reach target quality of results.

  • Synthesis, DFT, floorplanning, place-and-route, CTS and physical optimization of CPU cores and system interconnect.
  • RTL-to-GDSII closure for hard macros and block-level integration.
  • Timing analysis and closure using static timing analysis (PrimeTime) and implementing timing ECOs.
  • Power, area and performance analysis to guide design trade-offs and optimizations.
  • Physical verification analysis (DRC/LVS/PERC/ERC) using Calibre and performing layout edits as needed for closure.
  • Collaborate with implementation, physical IP and RTL teams to drive optimization and handoff quality.
  • Translate R&D concepts into practical implementation solutions and promote methodology adoption across teams and partners.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • 3+ years' experience in ASIC implementation, physical design, STA and timing closure, structured clock tree and PDN analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with synthesis, DFT, floorplanning, place-and-route, CTS, logical/physical optimization and power analysis flows.
  • Experience with physical verification and timing tools and flows (for example Calibre, PrimeTime) and performing timing ECOs and layout edits.
  • Proven scripting/programming skills (Tcl, Perl, Python, Make or similar) to develop flows and automation.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills; experience working with international teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with Arm-based SoC architectures.
  • Experience with additional languages/tools (C/C++, Java, R, Ruby, shell scripting, data presentation tools).
  • Experience with low-power design techniques (power gating, voltage/frequency scaling) and Verilog RTL.
  • Experience with ATPG tools and production testing.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant technical field; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
