Senior Embedded Systems Engineer - Digital Radio and Low-Level Development
ValeoJob Title
Senior Embedded Systems Engineer - Digital Radio and Low-Level Development
Role Summary
Join the R&D Audio/Radio team to design, develop and integrate embedded systems for digital radio and high-throughput data processing. The role sits at the hardware/software boundary and covers system architecture, low-level software development and validation on real hardware (microcontroller, DSP, FPGA, SoC).
Work spans signal acquisition, digital conversion, memory transfers, real-time processing, host communication and on-board validation to deliver robust embedded radio solutions.
Experience Level
Senior - minimum 7 years of professional experience in embedded systems, digital radio or signal-processing products.
Responsibilities
Accountable for system-level design, low-level software, radio DSP integration and hardware bring-up; collaborate with electronic and FPGA designers to deliver validated products.
- Define embedded system architectures for digital radio and translate functional requirements into hardware/software designs.
- Specify interfaces between processors, FPGA/DSP, memories, converters and radio peripherals; assess latency, throughput, memory and power constraints.
- Implement low-level embedded code in C/C++; develop device drivers, HAL layers and optimize critical data paths (DMA, circular buffers, FIFO).
- Program and validate interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, Ethernet, USB, PCIe) and control ADC/DACs, synthesizers and RF transceivers.
- Design, integrate and validate digital receive/transmit chains; implement I/Q processing, filtering, decimation/interpolation and synchronization.
- Perform board bring-up, debug with oscilloscopes/logic analyzers and JTAG/SWD; diagnose issues from traces, memory dumps and measurements.
- Define test strategies at component, board, sub-system and system levels; develop test tools and scripts (Python, C/C++, Linux).
- Document anomalies, root causes and corrective actions; participate in hardware/software design reviews.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; items listed as "nice-to-have" are additional advantages.
- Expert in embedded C; strong C++ when required. Deep understanding of pointers, interrupts, memory/register access and compilation constraints.
- Experience with debugging tools (GDB, JTAG, SWD) and cross-compilation toolchains; proficient with Git and Linux-based embedded environments.
- Experience with real-time systems, concurrent programming, RTOS and/or embedded Linux.
- Solid DSP knowledge: I/Q representations, modulation/demodulation, filtering, decimation/interpolation, sampling theory and synchronization.
- Practical hardware knowledge: microcontrollers, DSPs, FPGAs, memories, peripherals; ability to read schematics and component datasheets.
- Hands-on experience with DMA, buffers, FIFO, continuous high-throughput transfers and latency/throughput optimization.
- Experience in board bring-up and diagnosis using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and RF test instruments.
- Nice-to-have: experience with Verilog/VHDL, SoC FPGA architectures, SDR platforms and RF transceiver configuration.
- Technical English proficiency (reading and writing).
Education Requirements
Engineer degree or Master's in electronics, telecommunications, industrial computer science, signal processing or embedded systems. The posting requires at least 7 years of experience in embedded systems, radio products, SDR or signal-processing chains and concrete board bring-up experience.
