Job Title

Senior Embedded Systems Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and integrate embedded hardware, firmware, and gateware for Quantum RF (QRF) sensing systems. Work on control system architectures, board bring-up, verification, and lab-to-field system integration.

Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, and physics teams to deliver reliable, testable systems and support application and demo teams.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically requires 4+ years of relevant experience in embedded systems, FPGA development, or mixed-signal design.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include system design, integration, testing, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software and gateware for QRF systems.
  • Define and implement control system architectures for quantum sensors.
  • Integrate and verify subsystems; perform debugging across hardware and software boundaries.
  • Develop programmable logic and low-level CPU interfaces for integrated systems.
  • Create and run test scripts; maintain CI pipelines and hardware testbeds to ensure high test coverage.
  • Support board bring-up, lab testing, and provide feedback to design teams.
  • Operate and interface with electrical and optical lab test equipment.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers (including Rust) to define architecture and drivers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience. Nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • Must-have: 4+ years in embedded systems, FPGA development, or mixed-signal design.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in low-level embedded development in Rust or C/C++ and FPGA development in HDL.
  • Must-have: Experience with hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet) and strong cross-boundary debugging skills.
  • Must-have: Experience using benchtop test equipment and developing test or automation frameworks.
  • Nice-to-have: RF systems, signal generation, or data acquisition hardware experience.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with control systems/feedback loops, scientific instrumentation, and hardware schematic capture.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
