Senior Embedded SW Developer - Security

Role Summary

Develop secure embedded firmware, drivers and middleware that protect devices against modern cyber threats. The team focuses on secure boot, secure update mechanisms, cryptographic integration and hardware-based security for ARM-based microcontrollers.

Position is located in NXP R&D centers in Brno or Rožnov pod R. and requires collaboration with hardware, architecture and product teams throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

The role covers design, implementation, validation and maintenance of embedded security software and supporting security certification activities.

  • Develop and validate embedded security runtime software (security drivers, middleware, applications) for ARM-based microcontrollers.
  • Implement secure boot and secure update mechanisms and integrate cryptographic components.
  • Implement security drivers and middleware for the Rust Embassy framework.
  • Debug complex low-level software and hardware/software integration issues; perform root-cause analysis and fixes.
  • Follow industry security standards and best practices and support security certification activities.
  • Collaborate with architects, hardware and software teams to define security requirements and perform risk analysis.
  • Contribute to CI/CD, code review processes, testing, static analysis and code quality assurance.

Requirements

Core technical skills and desirable additional capabilities.

  • Must-have: Strong hands-on embedded software development experience in C and low-level programming.
  • Solid understanding of ARM Cortex-M microcontroller architectures and embedded system fundamentals.
  • Proven experience developing for Bare-Metal, FreeRTOS and/or Zephyr RTOS environments.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for embedded targets and complex hardware/software integration issues.
  • Experience with Git, code review processes and modern software development workflows including CI/CD.
  • Good understanding of secure coding, testing methodologies and static analysis tools.
  • Good English communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Right to work in the Czech Republic (valid visa/work permit) where applicable.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of Rust for embedded systems and familiarity with Embassy framework or Tock OS.
  • Familiarity with embedded security technologies (Mbed TLS, PSA Crypto API, SPDM) and certification schemes (SESIP, PSA Certified).
  • Experience with RISC-V and hardware-based security features is an advantage.
  • Willingness to participate in security certification processes and handle security-related tasks responsibly.
