Senior Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer (Device Drivers)
EthernoviaJob Title
Senior Embedded Software/Firmware Engineer (Device Drivers)
Role Summary
Design, implement, test and deliver embedded firmware and kernel/user-mode device drivers for Ethernovia networking devices. Work as part of the software team to integrate drivers into the company SDK and communication stacks (Linux and AUTOSAR) to expose hardware features to middleware and applications.
The role focuses on safety-critical automotive and edge applications, requiring rigorous development, validation, and collaboration with hardware and systems teams.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 6+ years of relevant embedded firmware and device-driver development experience.
Responsibilities
You will own the architecture, implementation, testing and integration of device drivers and firmware for communication devices.
- Design and implement embedded firmware and kernel/user-mode device drivers for networking hardware.
- Integrate drivers with Linux and AUTOSAR communication stacks and OS driver interfaces.
- Develop stack extensions, debug and test utilities, and automated unit/system tests.
- Optimize code for performance and footprint for resource-constrained embedded systems.
- Drive architecture and design decisions with cross-functional hardware and software teams.
- Follow functional-safety practices and participate in safety-focused development processes.
- Support system bring-up, hardware validation, and troubleshooting at the driver/firmware boundary.
Requirements
Core technical requirements and strong preferences for candidates.
- Must have: 6+ years practical experience in embedded firmware and device-driver development.
- Proficient in C/C++; experience with Python is a plus.
- Experience developing software device drivers, preferably for communication devices (Ethernet preferred).
- Deep understanding of operating systems, kernel concepts, and driver interfaces (Linux preferred; QNX/RTOS experience valuable).
- Hands-on experience with hardware and embedded processors; integration and testing of low-level code.
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle: architecture, implementation, testing, and debugging toolchains.
- Experience optimizing for code footprint and runtime performance.
- Nice to have: AUTOSAR/M_CAL experience, simulation/emulation platforms, GNU toolchains and debuggers, I2C/SPI/USB, MISRA/ASPICE/ISO26262, networking protocols (MAC/PHY, PCIe, SR-IOV), Yocto, virtualization, mixed-signal/DSP exposure, ARM processors, bootloader experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (stated requirement). The posting does not specify an explicit equivalent-experience clause.
