Senior Embedded Software Engineer β Qualcomm SoC / BSP & Hardware Bring-Up
Role Summary
Develop and integrate embedded software for automotive SoC platforms, focusing on BSP, device drivers, and hardware bring-up. Work with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver and validate embedded platforms for automotive projects.
Location: Auburn Hills, MI; role supports automotive SoC integration and board bring-up activities.
Experience Level
Senior β minimum 5 years of relevant embedded BSW/SoC experience; automotive domain experience required.
Responsibilities
Primary technical responsibilities include low-level software development, system bring-up, and hardware debugging in an automotive SoC environment.
- Design, implement, and maintain Board Support Packages (BSP) and low-level device drivers for SoCs.
- Integrate SoC platforms (Qualcomm and other vendors) into vehicle hardware and validate peripherals.
- Perform hardware bring-up, power sequencing, and root-cause debugging using lab instruments (oscilloscope, multimeter, power supply).
- Port, configure, and optimize embedded OSes (Linux, FreeRTOS, RTOS) and middleware.
- Use version control and build systems to manage source and produce reliable releases.
- Debug with JTAG, GDB and other embedded debugging tools; document findings and fixes.
- Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to resolve integration issues and drive firmware/hardware correctness.
- Communicate technical status to stakeholders and mentor junior engineers as needed.
Requirements
Required technical skills and conditions for hire.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in BSW SoC design with a focus on automotive applications.
- Proven experience in SOC integration and BSP development; strong device driver experience.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and common embedded toolchains and methodologies.
- Strong understanding of SoC architectures and peripheral interfaces such as UART, SPI, and I2C.
- Experience with embedded operating systems (Linux, FreeRTOS, or other RTOS).
- Familiarity with version control (Git), build systems (Make, CMake) and debugging tools (JTAG, GDB).
- Hands-on hardware bring-up and debug experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, etc.
- Effective problem-solving, attention to detail, and clear written/verbal communication skills.
- As a federal contractor, candidates selected for hire must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with SoC vendors such as Qualcomm, Renesas, TI, or Intel.
- Familiarity with security techniques for embedded systems and CI/CD pipelines for embedded software.
- Experience with Autonomous Driving or IVI software architectures.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required; Master's degree preferred.
