Job Title

Senior Embedded Software Engineer (C/C++), Machine Learning

Role Summary

Member of the Low Power AI solutions team responsible for deploying AI models on Qualcomm's low-power AI accelerator. Focus on mapping ML operators to hardware instructions and applying optimizations such as graph transformation, scheduling, memory planning, operator implementation, and quantization to improve inference efficiency and accuracy.

Collaborate with hardware and software teams to deliver optimized runtime, compiler, and model-efficiency tools for product roadmaps.

Experience Level

Senior. Minimum qualifications specify a Bachelor's degree plus 2+ years relevant experience, a Master's degree plus 1+ year, or a PhD. Preferred candidates have 2+ years working with ML frameworks and embedded optimization.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include implementing and optimizing ML software and tooling for hardware deployment:

  • Map high-level ML operators to low-level hardware instructions and implement optimized kernels.
  • Apply graph transformations, scheduling, memory planning, and quantization to improve performance.
  • Develop and extend runtimes, compiler tools, or model-efficiency tools for deployment on low-power accelerators.
  • Model, architect, and prototype ML algorithms or hardware/software co-designed ML solutions.
  • Conduct experiments to train and evaluate ML models and performance independently.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and interact with senior leadership as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Proficient programming in C/C++, ideally at the embedded level.
  • Solid hands-on performance optimization skills.
  • Experience with Linux and Android development environments and tools.
  • Familiarity with embedded or computer hardware architecture and low-level OS/hardware interactions.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe, Keras) and applying ML to domains such as NLP or multimedia.
  • Experience using statistics and probability in ML contexts.
  • Experience working in large matrixed organizations.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 1+ year of relevant experience; OR PhD in those fields. Preferred: Master's degree. Fields referenced include Computer Science, Engineering, and Information Systems.
