Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and maintain embedded firmware for Ethernovia’s networking devices and SDK, focused on reliability and safety for automotive and edge applications. Work within the software team to design, implement, test, and integrate low-level firmware and device drivers that expose hardware features to host systems.
Experience Level
Senior — 5–8 years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver production-quality firmware and related integration work for communication devices. Follow functional-safety practices and collaborate with hardware and software teams.
- Architect, implement, test, and integrate embedded firmware into the company SDK.
- Develop device drivers and interfaces between firmware and host systems.
- Integrate firmware with hardware platforms and perform system-level validation.
- Profile and optimize code for footprint, latency, and performance.
- Apply functional-safety and best development practices in firmware development.
- Write and maintain technical documentation and participate in code reviews.
- Use CI/automation tools to support build, test, and release processes.
Requirements
Core qualifications and skills required and additional preferred capabilities.
- Must-have: Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience (role specifies 5–8 years).
- Must-have: Proficient in C/C++; experience with Python is a plus.
- Must-have: Experience in firmware development and integration for communication devices (Ethernet preferred).
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with embedded processors and hardware integration.
- Must-have: Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, testing fundamentals, and efficient coding practices.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with simulation/emulation platforms, GNU toolchains, and debugging suites.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with device buses (I2C, SPI, USB), Ethernet MAC/PHY, TCP/IP, SerDes, PCIe, SR-IOV and related protocols.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with automotive/safety-critical qualifications and processes (MISRA, ASPICE, ISO 26262).
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of bootloaders (e.g. U-Boot), version control (Git/Perforce), DevOps tools (Jenkins), and mixed-signal/DSP concepts.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
