Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Digital Embedded Solutions Team in the Software & Digital Platforms Group to design and implement embedded software, device drivers, and bootloaders for SoC and MCU-based products. The role includes silicon and board bring-up, performance analysis, testing on emulation platforms and evaluation boards, and cross-functional collaboration.
Experience Level
Senior — experienced engineer level (senior individual contributor).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Translate product requirements into software and hardware requirements.
- Design and develop device drivers, firmware, microcode, and bare-metal software for SoC products.
- Develop bootloaders and software for performance analysis and profiling.
- Perform silicon and board bring-up; debug hardware and software using IDEs and JTAG/SWD tools.
- Ensure software testing, integration, documentation, and adherence to development standards; test on emulation platforms and evaluation boards.
- Collaborate with software architects and cross-functional, geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Communicate technical status professionally to internal and external stakeholders.
- Travel occasionally (up to ~10%).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes:
- Experience developing firmware and bare-metal drivers for MCUs, DSPs, or heterogeneous SoC architectures.
- Experience developing bootloaders and device drivers; hands-on silicon and board bring-up experience.
- Strong debugging skills with tools such as GDB, JLink, OpenOCD and experience with IDE/JTAG/SWD workflows.
- Working knowledge of real-time operating system concepts and experience with FreeRTOS, Zephyr, and/or embedded Linux.
- Proficient in C and/or C++ with solid software engineering practices.
- Good understanding of ARM cores and bus architectures.
- Familiarity with standard interfaces and protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, etc.).
- Familiar with CI/CD and tools such as Git, Jenkins/GitHub Actions, Jira, Confluence.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work independently in a global engineering organization.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with silicon design and hardware/software co-design principles.
- Experience with CMSIS Packs, IAR, KEIL, Visual Studio / VS Code IDEs.
- Comfortable reading board schematics and using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field; typically combined with several years of industry experience (posting referenced 5–7 years). Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
