Senior Embedded Software Developer - Security

Role Summary

Develop secure embedded firmware and security features for ARM-based microcontroller products. The role is part of an embedded security software team working on secure boot, update mechanisms, cryptography integration, and hardware-backed security to meet industry standards.

Position located in NXP R&D centers in Brno or Rožnov (Czech Republic); engineers collaborate across hardware and software teams to define security requirements and implement protections across the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Deliver and maintain secure runtime software for embedded products and work with cross-functional teams to ensure robust security throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Develop and validate embedded security runtime software: drivers, middleware, and applications for ARM-based microcontrollers.
  • Implement secure boot, secure update mechanisms, and integrate cryptographic components.
  • Implement security drivers and middleware for Rust Embassy framework (where applicable).
  • Debug complex low-level hardware/software integration issues and provide reliable fixes.
  • Follow industry security standards and secure-coding best practices; contribute to design reviews and threat analyses.
  • Participate in code reviews and maintain CI/CD workflows to ensure code quality and testing coverage.

Requirements

  • Must-have: Hands-on embedded software development experience in C, working close to hardware.
  • Practical experience with ARM Cortex-M microcontroller architectures and embedded system fundamentals.
  • Experience developing for Bare-Metal, FreeRTOS, and/or Zephyr RTOS environments.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for embedded targets and low-level integration issues.
  • Familiarity with modern software development workflows: Git, code review, CI/CD, testing and static analysis.
  • Good English communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Rust for embedded systems (Embassy framework or Tock OS).
  • Familiarity with embedded security technologies such as Mbed TLS, PSA Crypto API, and SPDM.
  • Experience with RISC-V architectures.
